No School - TODAY - Friday, August 18th

Lincoln County Schools have been cancelled today, Friday, August 18, 2017 due to continued rising waters in some areas of the county.

Congratulations to the Lincoln County Early Childhood Program!!

      Preschool-Headstart Teachers

All six Preschool/Head Start sites, including Crab Orchard, Fort Logan, Highland, Hustonville, McKinney and Waynesburg have earned a 5 Star Rating based on the Kentucky All STARS Tiered Quality Rating and Improvement System. A 5 Star Rating is the highest rating possible to be earned. The All STARS system is certified by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Department for Community Based Services, Division of Child Care and the Kentucky Department of Education.

Kentucky All STARS is Kentucky's expanded five-star quality rating and improvement system for early care and education programs. Studies show that children who attend high quality early learning environments have better math, language and social skills. The unified system serves all early care and education programs that receive public funding including child care centers, Head Start and public preschool. Kentucky All STARS is based on Kentucky's Early Childhood Standards and research-based indicators of quality. It recognizes programs that have made a commitment to continuous quality improvement. On the path toward higher quality, programs can benefit from supports including training, technical assistance and coaching.

On the expanded five-star scale, STARS level one is obtained by meeting regulatory requirements. STARS level two is obtained by completing a set of required domains and standards. STARS levels three through five features a range of points programs must meet in order to meet to move up on the rating scale. While there are required domains for these three STARS levels, programs can choose from a menu of standards to fulfill the requirements.

School Day Extended To Coincide With The Solar Eclipse

In follow-up to the announcement regarding the Lincoln County School District's decision to extend the school day on Monday, August 21, 2017, we want to share some of the final details as we prepare for this very unique learning experience planned for our students.
A few things to know:
Lincoln County Schools will be extending the instructional day on Monday, August 21st until 4:00 PM to coincide with the solar eclipse. After careful consideration, we are extending the school day to ensure our students have the opportunity to view the eclipse in a safe environment.
Certified solar eclipse viewing glasses will be provided at no cost for all students and will be distributed the day of the eclipse.
Students must have parent permission to participate in the eclipse viewing experience at their school. Permission slips will be coming home the week prior to the eclipse with your child. An alternative viewing option on media within the school will be provided as needed.
We understand that some parents/guardians may want to request an absence for their child on this day so that their child can participate in an educational activity related to the eclipse outside of the school. Parents/guardians wishing to make this request may fill out an Educational Enhancement Opportunity Request Form and submit to their child's principal at least five (5) days prior to the absence. If you submit an Education Enhancement Opportunity Request Form and it is approved, the absence will be marked exempt for that day. The form may be accessed at the following link:

Educational Enhancement Opportunity Requst Form

August 21st School Day Extended One (1) Hour

Eclipse

Lincoln County Schools will be extending the instructional day on Monday August 21st to coincide with the solar eclipse.

The duration of the eclipse for Lincoln County is from 1:02pm-3:55pm. The instructional day for Monday August 21st will extend to 4:00pm for all schools. Since prolonged viewing of a solar eclipse with the unaided eye could cause serious eye injuries, our goal is to ensure students are not on school buses during the eclipse.

The eclipse peak will be at 2:30pm when the moon obscures 96.5% of the sun.

As normal, buses will leave from the middle school first. Students will arrive home roughly one (1) hour later than normal.

Please sign permission slip and have your child return it to school on Monday if you haven't already done so. You may also click the following link to download permission slip now Solar Eclipse Permission Slip
