On Friday, LCMS students and staff are encouraged to wear blue in recognition of National Diabetes Awareness Month.
According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases website, "National Diabetes Month is observed every November so individuals, health care professionals, organizations, and communities across the country can bring attention to diabetes and its impact on millions of Americans." So we at LCMS are taking some time this month to provide some information about diabetes and it's impact.
The theme of this year's diabetes education program is "Managing Diabetes – It’s Not Easy, But It’s Worth It." With this theme is stressed the importance of taking care of diabetes so that complications can be reduced, complications such as heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, vision loss, and amputation.
However, the theme not only address the management of the disease, but it also stresses the importance of support. Those with the disease are not alone in their struggle. Others are going through the challenges as well, and there are people who can help.
