Welcome to Crab Orchard Elementary!

Dear Parents,

The staff at Crab Orchard Elementary is very excited to welcome your child to the 2017-18 school year.  We are proud to be a Leader in Me school.  We have already spent several days preparing for the instructional activities that will engage your child in the learning process.  In this letter I would like to outline a few things that will help you and your child have a successful school year.

First of all, make sure that your child attends school every day and is on time to school.  Good attendance at school is vital for students to achieve their full educational potential.   Students are more likely to succeed in academics when they attend school consistently. Just by being present at school, your child is learning how to be a good citizen by participating in the school community, learning valuable social skills, and developing a broader world view.  Your commitment to school attendance will also send a message to your child that education is a priority for your family, going to school every day is a critical part of educational success, and that it's important to take your responsibilities seriously including going to school.

Next we want to encourage you to read the entire handbook that has been prepared for you.  This will answer many questions that you might have about the upcoming school year.  This book includes meeting dates, schedules, policies, etc.  If you have any questions during the year and want to schedule a meeting with your child’s teacher you may check the master schedule for planning times.  If you have additional questions and need to speak to me, please call 355-2331.

Finally, I would like to invite you to come to our school and get involved.  Your child will work diligently to please you if he/she knows that you are interested in what they do.  If you don’t feel comfortable volunteering for a class room, then just come to have breakfast or lunch every now and then.  It really makes a difference for your child when they know that you want to take part in their education.
