According to the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), our school is located in a distressed county which means it is one of the most economically depressed areas in the nation. Economically, the community ranks in the lowest 10 percent of the nation's counties. Although these barriers are extensive, our school and community work hard to provide opportunities for our students so they can work towards becoming productive citizens for the 21st century workforce.
The addition of 40 Chromebooks would allow each of our 3-5 students to have their own device to receive intervention and enrichment opportunities to increase their learning. Each student would be able to access reading and math on-line instruction in an effort to further support and contribute to the core instruction they receive on a daily basis. The addition of the chromebooks would also provide the opportunity for our students to engage in science and social studies projects, especially in the realm of research. Furthermore, the chrombooks would aid in the development of technology skills for our students.
The cost of the chromebooks for 40 students is $7200. This includes the licensing fees and shipping/handling fees. Our goal is to raise this money by July 31, 2017 in order to begin the new school year with our chromebook initiative in place.
I hope you will help the students in our rural school to acquire chromebooks to ensure their college and career readiness for the future. We are very appreciative of your help.
