Gifted and talented students from across the district recently visited McKinney Elementary to participate in a science academy. Students learned about the internal and external structures of sharks that function to support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction. Groups of students dissected pregnant dogfish sharks to learn about the external and internal structures. Students also participated in an engineering activity that involved students utilizing and improving their skills of design, development, and construction of an egg drop apparatus. During the activity, students developed ideas, created blueprints, completed construction, and tested their designs.
