The tragic events that have recently occurred in our state and nation are understandably raising fear and anxiety for children, parents, and educators.
We want to take this opportunity to better explain how the occurrence of "threats" work within the day to day operations of your school district.
Unfortunately, the occurrence of a student making a threat happens more often than most realize. A threat can happen anywhere in grades K-12 and can occur frequently in a school system. This is not unique to the Lincoln County Schools.
Our district has school threat protocols in place to investigate every threat made immediately and thoroughly. As part of the investigation, a threat assessment is conducted by qualified personnel. School and District Administrators are trained so that cognitive, analytical decision making takes over emotional decision making when faced with a threat.
