Future Problem Solving is a team event for four students to complete a six-step process to resolve potential furturistic problems.  Students work as a team to read a scene that takes place in the far distant future, brainstorm challenges faced by the people in the future scene, determine an underlying problem, brainstorm potential solutions to the underlying problem, develop criteria for deciding which solution to act upon, and create an action plan to based on their top ranking solution in order to resolve the underlying problem.

The FPS process helps students think about long-term effects of current events, develop out-of-the-box ways of thinking about resolving problems, and helps develp planning and writing skills.
