Gifted and Talented Mathmematics

Gifted and Talented Mathematics is a class that explores 6th grade content and touches on 7th grade concepts. Before each test students will be given a pre-test to determine prior knowledge. Units are then built around student's personal knowledge base. Seventh grade mathematics curriculum is focused highly on applications of 6th grade concepts and comparison of conceptual learning. Students in GT will therefore not only learn concepts but learn to apply them in comparative real world and mathematical situations.

Gifted and Talented Mathematic students will be starting a Statistics project tomorrow 4/23. This project will last the next couple of weeks. Student will need to purchase one poster board for the project. A prompt and rubric will be sent home with your student on 4/23 outlining the perameters of the project. You can also find the prompt and rubric on this site to the left of this message.
Most of the project will be done in class. Some work at home maybe required. The project will be a significant grade in the last 9 weeks and will evaluate your student not only on mathematical content but also writing ability and presentation skills. This should be a great real applicaton to enable students to experience mathematics.

We are on our final 6th grade mathematics unit, Ratio and Proportions. We will explore ratio and proportions in relation to writing equaitons and graphing as found in 7th grade curriculum.
Once ratio and proportions are complete we will work on projects involving geometry and statistics. More to come soon!
