Our units of study include:
Unit 1: Statistics-
I can define and identify statistical questions.
I can describe the distribution of data based on its center, spread, and overall shape.
I can compare a measure of center (a single number) to the measure of variation (how values vary with a single number).
I can use data to construct and analyze a dot plot.
I can use data to construct and analyze a histogram.
I can use data to construct and analyze a box plot.
I can summarize data sets by reporting the number of observations.
I can summarize data sets by describing how the data was measured and its units of measurement.
I can summarize data sets by giving the measures of center (median and/or mean).
I can summarize data sets by giving variability (Interquartile range and/or mean absolute deviation).
I can summarize data by describing patterns in the data.
Unit 2: 2-D Geometry
I can apply the area formula for rectangles in real-world and mathematical problems.
I can find the area of triangles, focusing on discussing, developing, and justifying formulas.
I can find the area of special quadrilaterals (parallelograms, trapezoids), focusing on discussing, developing, and justifying formulas for these shapes.
I can find the area of complex figures by breaking the figure into triangles and quadrilaterals.
I can find the area of triangles and quadrilaterals in real-world problems.
Unit 3: 3-D Geometry
I can identify names and characteristics of 3D shapes.
I can use nets to represent 3D shapes made up of rectangles and triangles (cube, rectangular prism, triangular prism, square pyramid, triangular pyramid)
I can use nets to find the surface area of prisms and pyramids made up of rectangles and triangles.
I can solve real-world and mathematical problems to find the surface area of 3D figures made up of rectangles and triangles.
I can apply the formula ??=??×??×h to find the volume of right rectangular prisms with whole number side lengths to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
I can find the volume of a right rectangular prism with fractional edge length by packing with unit cubes.
I can apply the formula ??=??×??×h to find the volume of right rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
