Bruce Smith was sworn in as the District 3 Board Member of the Lincoln County School Board at the November 14th regularly scheduled school board meeting. Smith obtained the seat by winning the race on the ballot at the November 5th election.
Smith’s seat on the board fills the vacancy left by former board member Theresa Long. Long’s seat was temporarily filled via state appointment by Ethan Jones. Jones’s stint on the board ends with the swearing in of the recently elected Bruce Smith. Smith assumes his role on the board sooner than candidates normally do because it is fulfilling the final year of the four-year term for the District 3 seat. It will be on the ballot again next November as part of its normal election cycle. At that time the District 3 seat will be elected as a four-year term again.
School Board Member Bruce Smith said, “I accept the responsibility of overseeing the education of Lincoln County students and putting them first. I look forward to working with the other board members in the stewardship of the tax dollars that make public education possible. I will be a trustee of everyone in the district and committed to listening to the people and being a voice for them.”
Smith was a teacher and administrator for the Lincoln County School system for 29 years until recently retiring.
