At last night’s Lincoln County Board of Education Meeting, Board Chairman Bruce Smith submitted a letter of resignation for his position as board member. The resignation will be effective upon the Board formally accepting it, which will occur at a future meeting. Mr. Smith stated in the interest of transparency that he intended to apply for the superintendent position and did not want to be involved in any of the meetings relating to the superintendent screening committee or the selection process.

Smith said, “It has been an honor to serve the students and staff of Lincoln County Public Schools as well as the other citizens of Lincoln County.”

Board Attorney Grant Chenowith advised the board to call a special meeting to consider the resignation, elect a new chairman and discuss the process going forward to fill the vacant board seat. Smith was the board member for Lincoln County Educational District Three (3).
