The Lincoln County Board of Education is excited to introduce Lincoln County High School senior Maddy Funkhouser as its 2023-24 student board representative.

During high school, Maddy has been involved with Future Farmers of America (FFA), Beta Club, the LCHS golf team and the LCHS swim team. She is also the youth representative on the board at her church, a participant in LCHS performing arts and a member of her church choir and the Centre College community choir. Maddy has also been part of several community service projects.

As a non-voting board member, Maddy will be a liaison between the high school student body and the board of education where she hopes to bring a fresh perspective to the board members to aid in their decision making.

Maddy is an award winning public speaker through her involvement with FFA. She feels like one of her strengths that will be useful in this position is being an excellent listener. “I think when you serve the public, you have to possess great listening skills,” said Funkhouser. “Listening is its own special skill, you have to be a great listener in order to be an informed decision maker."

Superintendent Bruce Smith said he is excited to begin working with Maddy. “Gaining the perspective of our students will be very helpful to me and the board in our decision making process. We look forward to her input and insight."

After graduating Funkhouser plans to attend college and major in agriculture education.
