The Lincoln County Health Department has advised Lincoln County Schools to return to Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) next week, November 4th-6th. There is also no school on Monday, November 2nd(Professional Development Day) and Tuesday, November 3rd (Election Day).
The recommendation from LCHD stems from an accelerated amount of positive COVID-19 cases in the community in the past week causing Lincoln County to trend toward the critical category of substantial community transmission per the COVID-19 Mode of Instruction Metrics for K-12th grade.
“The uptick in positive cases in the county has a trickle-down effect on the school system,” said Superintendent Michael Rowe. “The health department has asked several (18) of our staff members to quarantine this past week due to exposure to positive cases in and out of school, which has caused a real strain on us being able to adequately staff our classrooms and buildings. It’s becoming very difficult to find enough substitutes. This is our biggest issue, and a big reason why we are going back to virtual learning (NTI) next week. Our plan is to look at the data again next Thursday when it’s released, along with considering the input of the health department, and determine the plan for the following week. Unfortunately, until the numbers lessen, this will be our new norm.”
Option 1 and Option 2 (Patriot Learning Academy), will be learning virtually Wednesday through Friday next week. No work is expected of students on Monday and Tuesday since they were previously scheduled days off from school. There will be no meal delivery next week, however meals will be available for pickup at all elementary schools. To order a meal you must call the school you plan to pick the meal up from by 9:00 AM each day. Extracurricular activities and athletics will continue to follow the same protocols as they have since 8/26.
