Lincoln County School Nutrition will be distributing a fresh box of fruit and vegetables every Friday for the month of July to students at the Crab Orchard, Stanford and Waynesburg delivery summer feeding locations. This will start this Friday, July 3rd.
This is part of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program grant funded and regulated by the United States Department of Agriculture. The grant was awarded to Crab Orchard, Stanford and Waynesburg Elementary students last year and is based upon submitted applications from elementary schools that operate the National School Lunch Program and have 50 percent or more of their students eligible for free/reduced-price meals. The FFVP grant prioritizes schools with the highest percentage of free and reduced priced eligible students.
Items that will be available in the box: fresh potatoes, tomatoes, radishes, cucumbers, onions, strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries.
